Behavior Interactive’s surprise success with their asymmetric horror title DEAD BY DAYLIGHT is the latest hit game to make the jump from the small to the silver screen! Teaming up Blumhouse and Atomic Monster production companies, both familiar with the Horror genre, is sure to be a great formula to bring the love letter to the genre that is DBD to greater heights.

We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Jason Blum and James Wan, two giants of the horror film industry, to further expand the Dead by Daylight universe. At Behaviour, our motto is to create unique moments, together, forever. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are the ideal partners to craft Dead by Daylight’s killer entrance onto the big screen.

– Stephen Mulrooney, Executive Vice President at Behaviour Interactive

In Dead by Daylight the Behaviour team has created a love letter to the world of horror, building an incredible environment teeming with atmosphere and terrifying villains — perfect for a scary cinematic adaptation. We’re big fans of the game at Atomic Monster, and are thrilled to be teaming up with Blumhouse to bring this frighteningly visceral world to the big screen.

-James Wan, Atomic Monster Founder and CEO

Dead by Daylight boasts over 50 million players worldwide, with almost 2 million per day jumping in to this challenging, asymmetric title. Players select to play as either a solo Killer, or one of a team of Survivors. Both sides includes original characters, such as Killers like the Trapper, who uses several hunting traps to ensnare players, and my favorite, the Trickster, a demented K-Pop star who uses throwing knives to attack from a distance. Several licensed crossover characters such as Ghostface from the Scream franchise, Nemesis from Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise, and Michael Myers from the Halloween Franchise are also available and provide unique gameplay options.

The Survivors get some cool options too! Several original characters pay tribute to popular horror characters, along with crossover characters like Bill from the Left 4 Dead franchise, Jill Valentine from Resident Evil, and the King himself, Ashley J. Williams from Evil Dead! While none of these characters are equipped with signature weaponry, or really any real weaponry, Survivors work as a team and get unique abilities to try to even the odds against the uber powerful solo Killer. Survivors race to start a series of generators and open a gate to escape the Trial (the in-game name for each round of play), while the Killers must use their unique abilities to hunt down, disable, and eventually sacrifice as many Survivors as possible to a mysterious, nameless and faceless Entity.

Players will know that the Dead by Daylight provides a shocking amount of in-game lore, and piecing together the story only deepens the mysteries. What is the Entity? How does it reach through dimensions to find Killers and Survivors? Can it be defeated? If not, can it be escaped? Many questions are raised and remain unanswered by the game, and leave ample space for Atomic Monster and Blumhouse to find the right director and screenwriter to pair with this rapidly expanding universe.

While the film is not yet in production, several names are already attached. James Wan, Jason Blum and Stephen Mulrooney produce, with Behaviour Interactive’s Remi Racine, Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Judson Scott, Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek, and Striker Entertainment’s Russell Binder serving as executive producers. The team is currently seeking a screenwriter and director.

We know there are so many fans of Dead by Daylight out there and think it’s imperative we find someone who appreciates and loves the world as much as we do, to help us bring the game to the big screen. We know our partners at Behaviour and Atomic Monster will help us bring the best version of this game to life.

-Jason Blum, Blumhouse Founder and CEO.
