If you love action movies, you pretty much know who late actor Charles Bronson was and most likely through his popular role as the notorious vigilante following the 1974 hit novel adaptation, Death Wish. The film which starred Bronson as a New York City architect cornered into taking the law into his own hands for the death of his wife and rape of his daughter, led to a successful five-film franchise before ending in 1994 prior to Saw and Furious Seven helmer James Wan’s own loose revisit with the 2007 Kevin Bacon actioner, Death Sentence.
Since then, Sylvester Stallone and Joe Carnahan were just two of several names being circled to direct reboots of their own which evidently never came to fruition. So why are we discussing this again? Well, you can blame Deadline who’ve exclusively posted news that Die Hard franchise star and action movie veteran Bruce Willis will be starring in a remake as of this summer. Moreover, he’ll be joined by directing duo Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado who last gained a worthy spotlight in the film festival circuit back in 2013 with the crime thriller, Big Bad Wolves before being nabbed by Sony to possibly remake Johnnie To’s 2009 film, Vengeance in a report the following year.
Willis is being drawn in as the perfect candidate to take Death Wish where it needs to as its starring lead apart from another possible franchise return with a sixth installment to the Die Hard franchise since the fifth, A Good Day To Die Hard, released in 2013. The actor’s next apperances will be in Max Adams’s latest pic, Precious Cargo, along with his reteaming with Extraction helmer Steven C. Miller for Marauders and Xiao Feng’s World War II epic, The Bombing.
