I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m a total fan of actor Kim Rae-won following his performances in RV: Resurrected Victims and 2017’s The Prison. I still haven’t seen Kim’s Chungbuk award winner, Long Live The King, which I hope to fix in the not too distant future, while it’s pleasing to see Kim bide his time away from TV roles to now bring us his latest performance in his newest thriller, Decibel.

Any noise and a bomb will explode! Former Lieutenant Commander Kang Do-Yeong is revered as a national hero for saving many of his men in a submarine accident. But he couldn’t save them all and is tormented by the incident. One day, he receives a cryptic phone call informing him that a sound sensitive bomb has been planted at a soccer stadium. When the crowd reaches a certain decibel, the bomb will automatically go off. In the nick of time, Do-Yeong saves innocent lives but the terrorist remains intent on inflicting further casualties, including Do-Yeong’s wife, Sergeant Jang Yoo-Jeong and his daughter, Seol-Young. Now he must race against the clock to track down the terrorist and save his family. Amid this impossible task, dark secrets the Commander left buried in the sea resurfaces.

Decibel also stars Lee Jong-suk and Cha Eun-woo. Spellbound and Monster helmer Hwang In-ho directed the film from a script he wrote with Lee Jin-hun.

Megabox Plus M is handling the film’s South Korean release with a date set for November 16. A digital release in the U.S. is currently in the works as this article will be updated when news arises, but it is known that Shaw Entertainment, which also backed this summer’s release of Jang Hyuk actioner, The Killer, will release Decibel in select theaters beginning December 2.
