Girlfight and The Invitation helmer Karyn Kusama’s latest, Destroyer, has already had runs at Telluride and Toronto and the reception has been with crystal clear approval from critics. As intriguing as the reactions have been in all their positivity, the official trailer’s arrival on Wednesday certainly fills a void, lending a chilling look at actress Nicole Kidman in a performance that has earned its share of praise in ample capacity.
Destroyer follows the moral and existential odyssey of LAPD detective Erin Bell who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.
Destroyer still has screenings at AFI left on the map this November while Annapurna Pictures has already etched a theatrical U.S. release on December 25. Kidman stars along with Sebastian Stan, Toby Kebbell, Tatiana Maslany, Bradley Whitford, Jade Pettyjohn and Scoot McNairy.
