DHAKA: Chris Hemsworth Action Thriller Production Moves To Thailand

About a week after wrapping the India leg of production for action thriller, Dhaka, the new Chris Hemsworth-led pic is already underway in Bangkok, Thailand as of a few days ago as confirmed by Netflix.

Sam Hargrave, a longtime stunt professional with credits partly listing Atomic Blonde, Wolf Warrior 2 and franchises like that of the Marvel MCU and The Hunger Games, makes his directorial debut from an original script by Joe Russo, and with a cast that also lists David Harbour (Stranger Things, Hellboy), Golshifteh Farahani (Paterson, Body of Lies), Randeep Hooda (Highway, Kick, Sarbjit) and newcomer Rudhraksh Jaiswal.

In an underworld of weapons dealers and traffickers, a young boy becomes the pawn in a war between notorious drug lords. Trapped by kidnappers inside one of the world’s most impenetrable cities, his rescue beckons the unparalleled skill of a mercenary named Tyler Rake. But Rake is a broken man with nothing to lose, harboring a death wish that makes an already deadly mission near impossible.

MCU franchise helmers Anthony and Joe Russo are producing the action adventure thriller with Mike Larocca under their AGBO Films banner, next to Hemsworth via his Thematic Entertainment shingle and with Eric Gitter (Atomic Blonde) and Patrick Newall (The Old Man & the Gun). AGBO Film’s Ari Costa will executive produce with Ben Grayson co-producing for Thematic.

“I’m honored to be working with a talent like Chris Hemsworth and to continue my collaboration with Joe and Anthony Russo, who have been great mentors of mine,” says Hargrave who directed second unit on action blockbusters such as Avengers: Infinity War, Atomic Blonde and The Accountant. “We have a great cast in David Harbour, Randeep Hooda and Golshifteh Farahani and I’m looking forward to introducing our young star Rudraksh Jaiswal to audiences worldwide. Netflix has been a great partner in this process and we’re excited to make a film that hopefully speaks to a wide range of audiences – a gritty, character-driven action movie with a lot of heart.”

“We are very much looking forward to our shoot in Thailand.” said Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. “The country offers such diverse shooting locations and the local crews have been a pleasure to work with so far. We’re happy to be here and are excited about spending the next few months in this beautiful country”.

Locations will include Bangkok, Phuket, Samut Songkhram, Nakhon Pathom and Ratchaburi Province, with the full support of the government and local authorities. Production is set to wrap in late February.
