Fans of Barry Cook and Tony Bancroft’s animated hit, Mulan, can now ready their two year countdown. Reports are now out this week that Disney’s forthcoming live-action remake, announced last March, has begun the global search for the actress to take the title role for its 3D release on November 2, 2018.
Avatar sequel co-scribes Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver have been to tapped to follow-up on the work previously done by writers Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek for the script, and reportedly for a more nuanced, detailed combination between the classic heroine ballad and the inital animated feature. A director is also currently being sought after.
via THR:
Like the 1998 animated film, Mulan is based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the daughter of an aged warrior who disguises herself as a man in order to take her father’s place in the army and go to war. Aided by her trusted dragon, Mushu, she becomes a skilled warrior and one of the country’s greatest heroines.
Producing are Jason Reed, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner.
