Donnie Yen Splits ICEMAN COMETH 3D In Two, And Counting…

Several reports came in on the week of May 10, 2013, stating that the production of Iceman Cometh 3D would be turned into an epic story completed in two productions in order to cover the cost of what was initially one film, directed by Law Wing Cheong and scheduled for a 3D screening at Cannes soon. The news came as a result of the production having been overbudgeted from $100 million HKD to $250 million HKD, in addition to the extra efforts with lead actor and action director Donnie Yen and the crew having to build a bridge set after failing to obtain permission from the Hong Kong to shoot an epic scene on the Tsing Ma Bridge involving a Ferrari, and Donnie on horseback.

As far as the first film goes, we know that Yen will star along with Simon Yam, Eva Huang, Wang Baoqiang, Benny Chan, Bai Baihe, Jaqueline Chong and Mark Wu. So, a two-part story project could mean more casting news ahead in the months to come after the first screening in Cannes, if this film franchise is going to work.

This is a lot of work for Yen at 49 years of age with more than thirty years of film credits to his name, which is both admirable and a little confusing. With the upcoming 3D release of The Monkey King, and with The Master and Kowloon Walled City going into prodiction soon, he continues to impress on screen and announce more and more films (with the exception of at least one) despite recently stating his intentions to scale back his on screen presence with his new role as founder of newly-established Superhero Films. Currently, JayneStars is reporting that the actor and master action filmmaker has another film coming down the pipeline titled One Person’s Martial Arts Circle, which will see Yen back on the set with BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS director, Teddy Chan.

Last, but not least, the turbulent and long-awaited filming of martial arts action drama, Special Identity has been completed since last year. And the film finally has a home with the people at Easternlight Films, according to reports at FilmBiz.Asia.
Pushing fifty, Yen shows no signs of stopping. He seems to be bringing it all, so keep your eyes peeled for some trailer news. I sure as heck cannot wait. The suspense here is of an epic kind.
