As promised two years ago, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two is coming to help bring full circle the director’s latest grand reboot of the classic 1984 sci-fi based on Frank Herbert’s novel. The official trailer is here as well following a spell of teases on Tuesday with lead actors Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson joining the newly-added Florence Pugh, Austin Butler and Christopher Walken to the mix of new and returning cast.
“Dune: Part Two” will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
Say what you will about remakes and reboots. Villeneuve’s choice to upgrade Herbert’s iteration from David Lynch’s previous take was a sound one. It delivered thorough and adeptly-packaged sci-fi for a story firmly woven together for a more organized and cohesive presentation inspired by the literary work and sets up its impending November sequel in exciting fashion. The trailer below seals the deal rather nicely too, but the campaign has only just begun.
