I’ve been off-and-on in touch with filmmaker Ranjeet S. Marwa as post-production stayed onward for his new movie, Exiled: The Chosen Ones, and I’ve learned just a few tidbits about the project and even gotten to take a look at some of the action.
What I can divulge is that there can be well over a dozen action sequences from respective starring actor/choreographer and action director, Sunny Pang (The Night Comes For Us, Headshot) and co-star Nick Khan, and also, based on what I’m told, folks watching the film will be in for some cool surprises.
I can also report that the film is in the last phases of post-production with the final grading just about finished, which also brings us a fresh new still from a shot previously seen in the main trailer in January – now tweaked with a more targeted look and feel to attrribute to Marwa’s vision. Actor Oka Antara (The Raid 2, Foxtrot Six) can be seen in the pic below, standing atop a building overlooking the burning dystopia in which the film is set:
“The world I created was intended to be a blur between Mad Max and The Maze Runner.” says Marwa, who describes Exiled: The Chosen Ones, as his first major narrative directorial outing. The film is also Marwa’s latest effort to work with Pang, having taken earlier inspiration from Pang’s shared credits in the emergence of Indonesian action cinema from stalwarts Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel, since the nascency of his long-developing action horror, Blood Rush.
Directing on location in the U.K. from his own script, Exiled: The Chosen Ones enlists a cast led by Pang who plays a vicious Yakuza enforcer swept into a deadly game of survival in a desolate prison facility where the rich place their bets. Joining Also starring are Hannah Al-Rashid, Nisaro Karim, Jay Bryhan, François Mequer and Mark Sears, with Marwa producing along with Djonny Chen (Daemon Mind, upcoming Damned and White Crow).
The film is also currently primed for a sequel which could see actor Zack Lee (The Raid 2, The Night Comes For Us) heading up the next chapter, while Marwa next priortizes the summer production of upcoming futuristic action thriller, Berzerker.
