FESTIVE FILM BITS: ‘Master Z’, ‘Triple Threat’, ‘The Man From Kathmandu’ And More!

Well Go USA is just days away from its North American theatrical release of Yuen Woo-Ping’s spin-off venture, Master Z: Ip Man Legacy. The good news, also, is that folks over in the UK awaiting its release thereafter will soon have a chance to view the film for themselves at the Spring 2019 edition of the Fighting Spirit Film Festival at the Mockingbird Cinema and Kitchen at Birmingham on April 28.

The film, featuring Max Zhang, Michelle Yeoh, Liu Yan, Dave Bautista, Xing Yu, Kevin Cheng and Tony Jaa, will screen right next to a small spate of winning FSFF shortfilm favorites, as well as Jesse V. Johnson’s heavy-hitting ensemble thriller, Triple Threat. Tickets are still available at this link.

Segueing to our local North American commonwealth, Puerto Rico’s 12th Rincon International Film Festival is proposing its five-day event kicking off on April 10 through 14 wherein its closing premiere that Sunday will be Pema Dhondup Gakyil’s sophomore feature, The Man From Kathmandu. I had the opportunity to be the first to screen this film for review outside of its Nepal release and you can read my thoughts on it by clicking here.

Leading the cast is actor and martial artist Jose Manuel and actress Anna Sharma with Bollywood star Gulshan Grover and Pakistani film star Hameed Sheikh. Keep up with all things Rincon here.

Last and far from least is what possibly lies ahead for the upcoming 8th Urban Action Showcase and Expo’s UASE 14-Hour Action Cinema Mega-Thon. Passes are now on sale at the official website with a promising look at a gathering that’s been home to a plethora of cult-acclaimed stars of the genre since 2012, including Isaac Florentine, Taimak, Michael Jai White, Cynthia Rothrock, Don “The Dragon” Wilson, Fred Williamson and many more.
