Director Sheldon Lettich confirmed his involvement with action thriller, Fight Pride, in a recent string of interview clips with Viking Samurai channel host, David Kurzhal, on YouTube.
Lettich noted that development started when a group of people he’d never worked with before contacted him. “It’s sort of in the vein of Lionheart, so you can see why want me to direct it,” Lettich told Kurzhal, citing the script’s 80s/90s vibe.
“It’s a good script,” Lettich continued, adding further news that he is currently circling a cast roster that includes Daniel Stisen (Last Man Down), Michael Paré (South Of Heaven) and Randy Couture (The Hard Way).
Penned by Erik V. Wolter, Fight Pride is billed as a drama that takes its cues from Eugene O’Neill’s classic stage play, “The Hairy Ape”. The story centers on Yank, and takes you on “a dramatic, character driven journey of self-discovery of a societal outcast and abused child escaping that abuse only to find himself surrounded by violence as an adult.”
Fight Pride, which is set to film in Atlanta, Georgia with dates pending, would mark Lettich’s return to the director’s chair having since helmed the Belgian action star on 2006 direct-to-video thriller, The Hard Corps, among other household Van Damme hits. Lettich also directed the milestone Mark Dacascos headliner, Only The Strong, 1997’s Perfect Target with Daniel Bernhardt, and 2000’s The Last Mercenary with Dolph Lundgren.
The discussion, par for the course of the channel’s theme this week, largely alludes to Lettich’s feature directorial debut, Lionheart. Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, the Universal Pictures 1990 thriller centered on a former Legionaire who goes AWOL, and fights to survive the brutal illegal fight circuit maintained by its rich elites, while providing for the impoverished family left behind by his deceased brother.
