Following its regional theatrical release, directing duo Chaiwat Sitalasai and Tawatchai Ladloy’s new action comedy, Thai Fighters, will have releases in North America, Latin America, Europe, Australia and Japan. The deal, made at Filmart for distro banner 3388 Films, is reported to be the biggest ever acquisition for the US-based firm.
As Screendaily’s Silvia Wong notes, Thai Fighters follows two rival villages set aside their differences and unite to fight against a ruthless gangster. The cast lists Chartchai Chinasri and Namfah Thunyaphat, along with Dan Chupong and Simon Kook, and is produced by Pakin Maiwan of Film Frame Productions who shopped the film to buyers in Hong Kong this week.
“In the spirit of championing more worldwide theatrical opportunities for Thai films, we intend to bring this authentically local, Thai-produced film to a global audience,” said 3388 Films founder Thien A. Pham.
