Limbo: Soi Cheang’s newest thriller gave off quite a different tone with its chilling teaser back during its HK FilMart premiere than perhaps intended. Despite its horrific brood, the Wilson Yip and Paco Wong-produced action drama centers on a veteran detective hot on the trail of a serial killer. To get the job done, he’s partnered with a rookie cop, and a woman who bounds herself to our detective’s aid as penance for killing his family in a deadly accident. Date pending.
Godzilla: King Of The Monsters: Michael Dougherty earned all kinds of praise after the release of his last epic trailer for the continuation of Legendary’s monster saga that will soon enough pit Godzilla against Kong. For now, our monstrous king has a raft of other legendary monsters to duel with from the acclaimed Toho IP, so there’s some work to be done. That said, the newest trailer that arose this week brims with sheer promise. May 31, 2019
A Lifetime Treasure: Sammo Hung will surely be back on screen in a few projects, one of which includes this particular comedy from directors Mak Kai Kwong and co-star Andrew Lam Man Chung. The film sets its story in a retirement home where the peace of an eccentric group of its aging residents is shattered by a gangster out for revenge. Also starring are Richard Ng, Ivana Wong, Lam Suet and Louis Cheung among the cast for a possible Chinese New Year release. No teaser yet, but there are definitely flurries of BTS footage, including this snippet of a press conference in October featuring memorable action movie highlights from Hung’s career.
