FIVE-A-DAY COUNTDOWN: Inemuri Iwane, Mojin 2 and 3, The Dragon Unleashed, Kung Fury 2: The Movie, and Silverback

We’re counting down through December with up to 100 titles to look forward to or hear more about in 2019. At five a day, today’s listing now brings us to 40!…

Inemuri Iwane: Motoki Katsuhide takes notes from Saeki Yasuhide’s 2002 novel series and its three-volume NHK TV series follow-up for a feature film about love and tragedy, and the logical fallout of what happens when rumors take precedence. Matsuzaka Tori (The Blood Of Wolves) leads the cast. May 17

Mojin: The Worm Valley: Director Fei Xing’s latest is one of two forthcoming action adventure epics based on the popular “Ghost Blows Out The Light” series of novels. The second will follow in the form of Mojin: The Dragon Ridge, both scheduled for release in 2019 and featuring newcomers Cai Heng, Yu Heng, Gu Xuan and Chen Yusi – all new cast members from the initial 2015 adventure, Mojin: The Lost Legend. Dates pending.

The Dragon Unleashed: Top Dollar Films is guaranteeing some solid take-home action and thrills with Death Kiss helmer’s new ninja thriller about a warrior caught in an existential dilemma. Chase Bloomquist stars along with John Schnieder as the villain, and with Emily Sweet and John Ozuna also starring.

Kung Fury 2: The Movie: This one is kind of a stab in the dark seeing as cameras probably aren’t rolling yet. I reckon we might see this in 2020 but I could be wrong, though it’s worth waiting on given how far director David Sandberg came in his retro kung fu throwback fantasy shortfilm premiere in 2015. The upcoming feature film has a blockbuster line-up so we want to see this happen soon. Without question.

Silverback: Action, ill-fated romance and drama unfold for Leroy Nguyen’s long-awaited feature film, also years in the making. Nguyen has been pounding the pavement since the summer adding scenes before bringing a ten-minute promo to this year’s Urban Action Showcase and Expo, and so he’s expecting 2019 to be the year his new movie following Black Scar Blues comes to pass.
