FIVE-A-DAY COUNTDOWN: John Wick 3, Kingdom, The Bouncer, Buffalo Boys, Hobbs & Shaw

For the next four weeks of weekdays, we’re looking toward a raft of at least a hundred films at five titles a day to help ring in the new year. Some of these are in no certain order but I hope you’ll find it useful.

John Wick: Parabellum: The fuse is lit once more as Chad Stahelski returns to the helm for what may be the third and final outing of the John Wick franchise before it spins off into Ballerina and upcoming series, The Continental. Keanu Reeves remounts for the title role as a hitman on the run following the events of last year’s hit sequel. May 17, 2019

Kingdom: After blowing our collective brains to smithereens in 2017 with Inuyashiki and Bleach, anyone under the notion that Sato Shinsuke hasn’t been busy can easily be proven sorely mistaken with the most recent teaser footage for Sony’s new, long-awaited period epic. Yamazaki Kento and Yoshizawa Ryo lead the Warring States-set tale about an aspiring king and the peasant who serves as his key general. April 19, 2019

The Bouncer: Following its run in France, Julien Leclerq’s latest is finally making its way to North America this year from Blue Fox Entertainment. None other than Jean-Claude Van Damme himself leads the action drama as a struggling bouncer who, when his estranged daughter becomes a barganing chip for law enforcement, is forced to go undercover and uproot a criminal outfit in order to reunite with her. Buffalo Boys: Another in a spate of fine Asian cinema offerings from this year’s festival community, Mike Wiluan (Beyond Skyline) sets forth here his directing featuring debut for lead actor Yoshi Sudarso and actor Ario Bayu, starring as two brothers who remerge from exile and back to their homeland to face off with evil Dutch colonizers and their henchmen. Hobbs And Shaw: The Fast saga waits its own canon finale while spin-off efforts from director David Leitch remain full-speed ahead for his third solo directorial outing. Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson headline the new action adventure reprising two key roles from the Universal Pictures franchise-on-wheels that also has Vanessa Kirby and Idris Elba also starring.
