FIVE-A-DAY ROUND UP IV: Rampage, The Meg, Pacific Rim: Uprising, Guardians Of The Tomb, Warriors Of Future

Today’s bunch just so happened to round up some monster feats. These came to mind so, here we go:

As far as creature features and sci-fi go, Rampage is a pretty big effort in that department from Warner Bros. with Brad Peyton at the helm. Adapting a classic video game, Dwayne Johnson stars alongside Naomie Harris for the story of a Primatologist who teams up with a discredited genetics engineer to solve the mystery behind an otherworldly experiment gone wrong and stave off the destructive battle for supremacy between a supersized beasts and his best friend, George, a highly intelligent silverback albino gorilla. April 20 is the date!

Jon Turtletaub is the man Stath fans will be turning to in 2018 when The Meg finally opens in theaters. Nearly eleven years in the making and inspired by Steve Alten’s 1997 novel, action star Jason Statham takes the fight from land to sea as he’s pitted against a legendary holy f**k-sized Megalodon shark as long as 75 feet and LOTS of teeth. Statham is joined by Li Bingbing, Winston Chao, Ruby Rose, Rainn Wilson, Robert Taylor, Cliff Curtis, Olafur Darri Olafsson, Robert Taylor and Masi Oka for the film’s August 10 release.

Steven S. DeKnight’s Pacific Rim: Uprising wasn’t exactly easy to come by since Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 monster thriller launched a cult fan following. It did well, but not well enough to immediately garner the sequel we have now opening in theaters and so whatever the case was behind the scenes, someone eventually heard the call for a follow-up – one that now brings John Boyega to the forefront of mankind’s latest jaeger battle against otherworldly aliens from dimensional portals beneath the sea bed. For all the efforts it took to make this movie happen, go see this one in IMAX when the film opens on March 23. 3D if possible. It deserves your money and your fandom that much.

Kimble Rendall’s Guardians Of The Tomb is another monster thriller now poised for a 2018 release despite what some pages are still reading. The film earned its acquisitions back in early November during AFM with China opening the film on January 19 and with releases for the U.S. and U.K. as well. Li Bingbing also stars here with Kellan Lutz and Kelsey Grammer for the story of a group of scientists pitted against a swarm of man-eating spiders while in search of a colleague lost in an ancient labyrinth.

A long-gestating passion project, Louis Koo’s One Cool Film banner could be on the heels of a new milestone effort in the coming year with the new sci-fi thriller, Warriors Of Future. In-house VFX shingle FatFace’s own Ng Yuen-Fai stakes his claim at the helm with The Bullet Vanishes and The Vanished Murderer helmer Law Chi-Leung for the story of a dystopian Earth where a mysterious vine could be mankind’s salvation. Koo is joined by actor Sean Lau as seen in the stills as well as alluring behind the scenes footage that lends plenty to be excited about.

Stay tuned for the next five!
