FIVE-A-DAY ROUND-UP XVIII: Contracts 3, Crazy Fist, Kung Fury 2: The Movie, Armed, Legend Of The Ancient Sword

Per my usual angle here at Film Combat Syndicate, following stunt professionals eventually led me to Alex Chung who is now ramping up his debut independent feature, Contracts 3. A full narrative spin-off from two earlier proof shorts, this one pits our cast deep in the brutal tale of a group of assassins who find themselves as targets of a more supreme killer. We only have a teaser trailer to go on, but it whets the appetite plenty.

Ask me a month ago what Crazy Fist is and I couldn’t tell you. A low-quality teaser poster is floating online for the project however and it hails from director Qing Guo, telling of a former MMA champion now billionaire corporate royal who pairs up with an investiagtor to uncover a conspiracy involving the deadly illegal tournament that killed his brother. Bodybuilder Kai Greene has gone on social media with a few BTS clips to lend some insight while a release next year is reportedly due. Steve Yoo (Wrath Of Vajra) and Collin Chou (The Four franchise) also star.

The last three years have proven ample for actor and filmmaker David Sandberg with the beloved cult classic, Kung Fury. A project born from the love of all things neon-lit, 16 bit and bred in the 1980’s, Sandberg and the good people at Lazer Unicorn all but tripled their crowdfunding amount before unleashing a whole half hour of kung fu fighting, time traveling, NAZI destroying fury in 2015, and ultimately earning his way to develop a fully-fledged feature film tentatively titled Kung Fury 2: The Movie. We don’t have a trailer yet but if you don’t already one of the nearly 29 million views of the actual short, then I got’cher excuses right here!!!

One can only commend director Renny Harlin for finding his footing in the China film market. He’s banking on it thusfar having fully invested in his latest RPG adaptation, Legend Of The Ancient Sword with Leehom Wang, Victoria Song, Karena Ng and Godfrey Gao starring. Telling of a mythical warrior who bands with a team of other warriors to unite the pieces of the Sword Of Enlightenment to stave off armageddon, the film only has a few photos of select cast to go on and it looks alright thusfar. We’ll see how the rest of it bodes this year unless it gets pushed back.

Actor, producer and director Mario Van Peebles is also bringing something to moviegoers in 2018 for his latest thriller, Armed. Peebles has cited the project as one with an inherent look at the issue of guns in America and the premise he’s using to observes this tells of a downtrodden ex-U.S. Marshall suffering from PTSD manages to find new life in the beautiful, free-spirited Grace, reinvigorating his sense of purpose and self in time to deal with the actions of former team member Jonesie who resurfaces with ill intentions. Jemma Dallender, Ryan Guzman and William Fichtner also star with Hannibal and GVN handling its release.
