GHOSTS OF TSUSHIMA Taps ‘John Wick’ Director Chad Stahelski To Adapt The Hit Video Game

Sucker Punch Productions

I’m willing to bet there’s pretty much a bigger list than a lot of us are aware of, of projects that filmmaker Chad Stahelski is, or in talks to be, attached to – in some degree or another. For each of these developments, it’s never not garnered any attention for him, long since catapulting himself in fan favor with the on-going John Wick saga which commences principal photography very soon on its fourth installment.

Even news of being attached to help develop a reimagining of the hit South Korean thriller, The Man From Nowhere, hasn’t fallen deaf on the crowd, or his long-intended interest in rebooting Highlander for that matter. At this stage in the game, “a full plate” is more than understating things, and speaking of games, fans of the Sucker Punch/Sony Interactive property, Ghosts Of Tsushima, can now tack the sprawling hit period adventure onto the priority list for the well-known stunt-multihyphenate.

Via Sucker Punch: The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan—until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting—the way of the Ghost—as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.

I haven’t played the game, and so I can only go by the exhalting reactions and praise from fans since its release into the world last summer. In all earnestness, the idea of Stahelski putting his name up for the director’s chair for Sony Pictures is nothing short of a hitmaker for fans keen on what he’s got in store.

What’s more is he’ll be producing the film out of his 87Eleven Entertainment banner alongside partners Alex Young and Jason Spitz, joined by the involvement of PlayStation Productions’s own Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan to produce, with Sucker Punch exec producing. Peter Kang is overseeing the project on behalf of Sony Pictures.

“We’re excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin’s story to the big screen. We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences.” said Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions.

I’ve also heard you can pet animals in this game, which is cool. I’ve seen the clips, which are even cooler. I almost wish I were still a gamer… Almost!
