Talented Aussie actress Naomi Watts has had a mixed bag of films under her belt lately. With her ventures into genre fare like Boss Level and The Desperate Hour to indie fare like This Is the Night and Luce; the projects have received mixed reactions with the exceptions of the acclaimed drama Luce and the idiosyncratic TV series Twin Peaks – The Return. In the case of her latest film, Watts returns to the role of the scream queen after making her big impressions with films like The Ring and Mulholland Drive.

Ostensibly a strict remake of the Austrian film of the same name by directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, Goodnight Mommy features Watts playing the titular role who arrives home to her intrepid twin sons (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti) after a major cosmetic operation. However, the twins have a suspicion that something is not quite right with their mother, which makes them question whether is she really their mother or is she is an imposter. Even with vehement cries of denial from their mother, the twins resort to increasingly macabre ways of interrogation to make her talk.

Directed by Matt Sobel (best known for his 2015 Sundance hit Take Me to the River) and scripted by Kyle Warren (best known for his contributions to the Lethal Weapon TV series), Goodnight Mommy premieres on Prime Video on September 16th.
