Sources indicated this week that filmmaker Baltasar Kormakur is being tapped to bring co-writer and director Erik Matti‘s Filipino crime drama, On The Job, to North American audiences for a remake. The announcement originally came in about a week prior to today’s news, but we now know that XYZ Films, the people backing The Raid 2 and action star Joe Taslim‘s upcoming role in The Night Comes For Us, will be producing along with Kormakur.
The news comes just less than a month after Matti’s film successfully caught the attention of North American movie distributor, Well Go USA.
Erik Matti’s film, co-written by Michiko Yamamoto, stars Gerald Anderson, Joel Torre, Piolo Pascual, and Joey Marquez, based on real-life events involving recent stories of political corruption, with politicians tied to mobsters, and organized hits using day-release prisoners as assassins. Star Cinema is releasing the film in the Philippines this July, with Well Go USA theatrically releasing the film for limited screens in North America this Fall.
Kormakur’s next film, 2 Guns opens nationwide on August 2, 2013.
