HAIKARA-SAN: HERE COMES MISS MODERN, A Question Of Kendo Over Kisses In The Latest Trailer For The U.S. Bound Anime Feature

Fans looking forward to a female-centric theatrical adventure with a touch of grit and romance will have something delightful to endulge in this summer. Thus, author Yamato Waki’s classic shojou manga, Haikara-San: Here Comes Miss Modern, has seen its share of evolution since gaining ground in the 70s, and favorably with a celebrate heroine at its core that ideally matches viewer interests these days per the renaissance of strong female leads.

The manga’s latest return to anime form now brings the efforts of directors Furuhashi Kazuhiro and Kidokoro Toshiaki to North America by way of ELEVEN ARTS with the rollout of a two-part anime feature film release which commences on June 8 with the first title. The LA-based studio is officially out this week with a trailer for Furuhashi’s film following its Japan release last November and with actress Hayami Saori and actor Miyano Mamoru headlining the voice cast of our lead couple, Benio and Shinobu. The sequel, dubbed The Grand Tokyo Romance, is reportedly readying a Fall release.

During the Taisho era of 1918, 17-year-old Benio Hanamura thrives on bucking tradition. As a boisterous and quarrelsome tomboy, Miss Hanamura leads a life of kendo and tree-climbing adventure with her best friends Tamaki and Ranmaru. Benio determines to find love on her own, though her family has other plans. Benio will encounter tests of love, independence, and friendship during wartime.
