Hasbro's Allspark, Paramount To Develop A Shared Cinematic Universe For TRANSFORMERS, G.I. Joe And Others

Leave it to Hasbro to pick back up on just how to bring your favorite toys to life on screen! Already in progress is a slate of at least four more Transformers movies, but now we can include further knowledge of an expanding movieverse that will cross Transformers’ characters with that of other properties.

Together with Paramount Pictures, Hasbro chairman, president and CEO Brian Goldner along with executive vice president and chief content officer Stephen Davis and head of film development Josh Feldman are well underway in gathering a writers’ room that will produce scripts to mingle Transformers with characters from G.I. Joe, Micronauts, Visionaries, M.A.S.K. and ROM; The former already has two live action films under its belt with a third installment that’s been lingering since Jon Chu’s 2013 hit, G.I. Joe: Retaliation which added $675 million dollars gross total from both Chu’s film and its 2009 predecessor from Stephen Sommers, G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra.

“Paramount and Hasbro have had a longstanding relationship and we’re proud of the success we’ve enjoyed on the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises,” Brad Grey, Paramount chairman and CEO, said in announcing the deal. “We’re excited to grow our agreement and make even more movies based upon these popular and powerful Hasbro characters and their worlds.”

“Hasbro and Allspark Pictures put storytelling at the center of everything that we do. These brands are filled with memorable stories and vivid characters, and this universe creates a framework for how they will become interconnected,” Goldner added. “Extending our partnership with Paramount allows us to continue our long-term strategy and overall vision to build dynamic worlds for all of our brands, and we are thrilled to collaborate with them as we develop these properties.”

A third installment of G.I. Joe was teased during the 2014 Licensing Expo, though clearly if you haven’t heard about it much since then, today’s updates are a good reason why. At any rate, Hasbro is here to stay, and so you can expect more toys to come to life on the big screen in the years to come.
