Heroic Bandits Saddle Up In The New Action-Packed Trailer For KUNDO: AGE OF THE RAMPANT!

Fancy some good old-fashioned high-flying martial arts and swordplay? Then you need not look further than the upcoming release of director Yoon Jong-bin‘s latest action cinema contribution titled Kundo: Age Of The Rampant. The Berlin File actor Ha Jung-woo stars in the film, his forth actor/director with Yoon pairing since The Unforgiven (2005), Beastie Boys (2008) and Nameless Gangster (2012) opposite Woochi star, actor Gang Dong-won in a story that delivers dazzling action sequences founded on an empassioned and genuine Robin Hood-tale for Korean filmgoers and fans alike.

“Every era has its share of politicians who serve their own interests and greed rather than the welfare of the nation and its people,” Yoon articulated in a previous director’s statement quoted in a  for the Hong Kong Asian Film Financing Forum last year. “Especially during 19th century when the entire world was making a shift towards the modern times, the late Chosun era was a period of social and economic unrest in Korea, and it was also a time of great tyranny. The film deals with this era when the king was powerless and the band of thieves fought against the authorities. They raided the corrupt officials and shared their booty with the vulnerable and the impoverished. They were the true heroes who believed that their cause was more important than their own lives. Their existence represents a ray of hope for the hopeless living in a turbulent time.”
He continues, “The film depicts the battle between the upper class and the lower class represented by Kundo and Dolmuchi. As an action film with an intriguing story, it will certainly attract the audience. As the film reflects the time when Kundo existed, it will allow us to reflect upon ourselves. In addition, one man’s vengeance and the fatal duel of the two men will come alive on the screen. This is the reason why Kundo of the old days must be brought to life on the screen today.”

Kundo: Age Of The Rampant is due to release theatrically this July with a date pending. Expect posters and more news ahead as the summer draws near!
SYNOPSIS:

A new hope for the powerless and impoverished people and its name is KUNDO.

Year 1859 — it is the feudal Chosun era in which the king and the aristocracy rule the country. Due to the continuous natural disasters and poor harvest, poverty, hunger and death are rampant. But as the rulers are concerned with only their own wealth, they carry on exploiting and persecuting the poor. In this dark period, KUNDO is a ray of hope for the poor; he is someone who can be the figure of fear to the undeserving nobles. And there are two men who have to stand against each other.

In the era when one’s status is decided by birth, Dolmuchi was born to a poor butcher while Jo-yoon was born into a powerful and wealthy family. The two men strike a dangerous deal and Dolmuchi loses his mother and sister as a result. He is trampled by Jo-yoon who commands absolute power in his oppressive world.

Bringing together the men who are on the fringe of this dark society, Dolmuchi is accepted as a member of KUNDO and opens his eyes to the world. He draws his sword out of the sheath and disperses the shadow cast on the poor and helpless. Before him, the man who took away his family appears. Standing in front Joyoon, Dolmuchi challenges his arch-enemy to their final duel.
