It’s been several months since we heard from actor Henry Cavill as production commenced on Chad Stahelski’s Highlander. Having since recovered from injuries sustained late last year, the Man Of Steel star took to the socials on Wednesday to share our first-ever look at his role in the upcoming reboot of the sword-wielding fantasy franchise.
Russell Mulcahy directed the inaugural 1986 Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery starrer, telling of a 16th-century Scotsman forged in the heat of battle as one in a diaspora of immortals, all drawn to battle each other for “The Prize”. Despite flopping at the box office, the film ascended to cult reception in the years that followed along with the profusion of sequels and TV shows.
Stahelski directs the newest iteration from Michael Finch’s script following previous drafts by Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson. Highlander also stars Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela and Max Zhang, for a release date likely set for 2027.
