Neon acquired director Na Hong-jin’s new film, Hope, back in April. There’s no release date yet though, but the reception the movie just got while screening at Cannes this weekend is already prompting some major buzz on the socials following its reportedly seven-minute standing ovation, in accordance with a first look teaser now online.
In the remote South Korea village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok (Hwang Jung- min) and officer Sung-ae (Hoyeon) are called to find a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc on the village. In the nearby forest, a coterie of hunters, including Sung- ki (Zo In-Sung) set out to track the beast and find themselves hunted instead. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading. What begins as ignorance plants the seed of disaster, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic proportions.
Rounding out the cast are Alicia Vikander, Michael Fassbender, Taylor Russell and Cameron Britton.
I gotta say, it’s about time we saw some footage revealing what this film entails. Plot details were thin from its early days and all we really knew was who was going to star, but the footage and hype we’re seeing now justifies the excitement.
