Robert Rodriguez’s thriller Hypnotic just banked its starring lead with actor Ben Affleck, ushering in the first title for Solstice Studios and Studio 8 since launching their strategic partnership.
Hypnotic rolls cameras in April from a script by Rodriguez and Godzilla franchise writer Max Borenstein, telling of a detective’s entanglement in a mystery involving his missing daughter and a secret government program–while investigating a string of impossible high-end heists.
Rodriguez is producing with Studio 8 CEO Jeff Robinov and colleagues Guy Danella and John Graham. Solstice is launching world sales excluding the U.S. at the AFM this week, and will also produce.
“Working with Ben on his award-winning projects, including Argo and The Town, I have seen how his versatility and creativity has made him one of the most talented filmmakers both in front of and behind the camera,” said Robinov. “It’s very meaningful to be collaborating with Ben again on this uniquely riveting suspense thriller, and I know he and Robert will make a terrific film together.”
Some of Affleck’s recent compiled directing and screen acting credits include The Town, The Accountant, Triple Frontier, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Justice League and Live By Night, and the upcoming inspirational drama, The Way Back. He is represented by William Morris Endeavor (WME).
