Idris Elba Actioner, BASTILLE DAY, Commenses Principal Photography

Actor Idris Elba is no stranger to performing phsyical action sequences on films, especially Sam Miller’s No Good Deed, which kicking off its theatrical run last month at the top of the box office. At best, this is nothing short of a clear sign thay Elba has not lost his star power as he’s proven to be one of the most tremendous and engaged actors working in film to date with a variety of high-priority films to keep in mind, including The Gunman next February, and King Arthur in 2016.

More to the point, Elba has been immersing himself in training – signaled as recently as a few weeks ago with an Instagram video of himself getting ready for his newest action thriller, Bastille Day. Well the actor has since arrived in to the Paris, France set in fit form where filming is now underway and will remain so for the next four weeks before heading to London.
Directed by The Woman in Black helmer James Watkins, the film was picked up by Focus Features for North American release during Cannes back in May from international sales agent, Studiocanal who are fully backing and also releasing the film in Germany, France and English speaking territories. Scribes John Hodge and Andrew Baldwin are credited with the screenplay that joins Elba and actor Richard Madden with Charlotte Le Bon, Kelly Reilly and Jose Garcia.

Set on the eve of Bastille Day (July 14), young French woman Zoe (Charlotte Le Bon) intends to plant a bomb in Paris to make a radical political statement without hurting anyone but changes her mind at the last moment. 

However, when US pickpocket Michael Mason (Richard Madden) steals her bag and dumps it at a busy Metro stop, he becomes the prime suspect when the bomb explodes. 

Meanwhile, deskbound CIA agent Sean (Idris Elba) fresh from war in the Middle East becomes determined to find him Michael bring him into custody before the French authorities do – connecting Sean, Zoe and Michael in a race against time.

Philippe Rousselet is producing under Vendome Pictures, with Steve Golin, David Kanter and Bard Dorros also producing for Anonymous Content. Principal photography is expected to wrap by this December.
