INSIGHT: Actor And Martial Artist Ken Zheng Is A Counter Terrorist On The Run In The Official Trailer

YouTube Poster

A little over seven years ago, moviegoers got to sample a little more of what actors Livi Zheng and Ken Zheng were capable of with 2014 martial arts thriller, Brush With Danger. The film was a freshman effort by Livi who directed the pic and has since catapulted into some of the busiest years she’s had ever since, with several other film credits both narrative and documentarial, long and shortform – including 2018’s Bali: Beats Of Paradise.

Livi still had her hands on at least one other project during that period titled Insight, from 2016 when our website first shared a concept poster and news of the hopeful attachment of actor and cinematic Silat action stalwart, Yayan Ruhian, who himself went on to upscale to immense heights both at home in Indonesia, as well as in Japan and Hollywood to this day. That propsect never came to pass, but that didn’t hinder Insight from coming together, which it assuredly has!

Jian (Ken Zheng) is a counter terrorism agent who blends his skills as a martial artist and clairvoyant to bring the world’s most nefarious individuals to justice. This lone wolf is is forced to make an unexpected detour to Los Angeles upon receipt of the devastating news of a cover up surrounding his brother’s alleged suicide. With the reluctant help of LAPD detectives, Abby (Madeline Zima), Carl (Tony Todd), and Captain Duke (Keith David), the unlikely group become involved in the investigation. Jian and Abby fight against a high-tech criminal (Sean Patrick Flanery) looking to exploit the brothers’ gifts in his own quest to power.

Notice the impressive cast on deck in the synopsis above, especially that of Flanery who’s come into the last few years dropping some truly entertaining gems, including American Fighter and Alex Ranarivelo’s Born A Champion, as well as Christopher Rey’s Assault On VA-33 which is inbound from Saban Films as we speak.

As for Livi, she shares the directing chair this time around with her fellow Brush With Danger star as well, Ken, who wrote the film in addition to starring, with Livi also producing, and rejoined by Zane Thomas (Brush With Danger) as exec producer.

North America’s Gravitas Ventures announced its acquisition of the new independent action thriller last week via the trades, and will release the film day-and-date on March 12. Fandango presented the trailer on Wednesday which you can check out atop the page.
