Alas, it looks like more of the same derivative craziness with Paul W.S. Anderson sitting back at the helm for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, and the latest trailer looks nothing short of the usual, promising big setups, more lazer dodging, more menacing Iain Glen, and so on. Moreover, as the new international trailer insists, Alice has, indeed, “played a long game”, and a winning one at that; A billion dollars in on its big screen investments since 2002 reads like a success story more than anything – something I think fans will appreciate no matter what criticisms may be pending.
SYNOPSIS:
Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
Of course, the film is not without its own share of upheaveal over news regarding safety concerns on film sets in the wake of the death of South African stuntman Ricardo Cornelius, as well as injuries sustained by Jovovich double, stuntwoman Olivia Jackson last year. Thankfully however and as bittersweet as things read, this story comes with an albeit happy ending, especially one that involves the film’s completion and a release date currently set for January 27, 2017.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which joins Jovovich and Glen with Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken, Rola, Lee Joon-Gi and William Levy, brings forth its first official international teaser trailer following two mini-teasers in the last five days.
