It’s All Fun and Games in MURDER BURY WIN

Why do you play games: for fun or to win?

Although gaming is one of my many fun hobbies, I play to win, similar to Adam in Gravitas Ventures’ latest film MURDER BURY WIN.

MURDER BURY WIN follows budding game makers Chris, Adam, and Barrett as they try obtain funding for their game. A mysterious phone call lures them to an isolated cabin. Nothing shady about that, right? Well, to be honest, if I had something that I needed financially backed, I’d probably take the chance on the sketchy meeting, too. Especially if I believed in my product as much as these three friends.

So the three brave inventors meet with a stranger and well, they probably shouldn’t have done that. Now here is when the fun really starts. When they end up with a dead body on their hands they are left with a serious dilemma. They can either call the police and hope they are believed when they say it was an accident or use the knowledge gained from creating their game to help them out of their predicament? What is the premise of their game? To kill someone and get rid of the body.

I know it is only April, but I am calling it now: this is going to be one of my top 5 films of 2021. It was that good. Seriously.

“Comedic thriller” is the perfect label for this fun film. It was equal parts cringe with comedic gore, gasps, and lots of laughing out loud. I have not laughed this much at a film since Paintball Massacre, another horror movie mixed with dark comedy.

The story was original and the pacing was great. This was an enjoyable 90 minutes. Everything wrapped up and the ending was fitting; I just wasn’t ready for the ride to be over. If you’re a fan of comedic thrillers, games, and films like Clue and Knives Out, I highly recommend this one.

MURDER BURY WIN is the directorial debut from director/writer Michael Lovan and stars Mikelen Walker, Erich Lane, and Henry Alexander Kelly as the three main characters. Before this film I was not familiar with any of these guys, but this was a wonderful introduction to their work and talent. I can’t wait to see more from both the actors and Lovan.

MURDER BURY WIN is available on demand on April 27.
