A whole line-up of LEGO-inspired movies are in the works following the hit success of The LEGO Movie from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, including The LEGO Batman Movie which opens next February. One other title now making the rounds courtesy of the events over at Licensing Expo 2016 in Nevada is Tron: Uprising helmer Charlie Bean’s The LEGO Ninjago Movie, based on the popular toyline and with an already-running series iteration of its own on Cartoon Network.
Brickset reportedly unveiled new details on the film and its cast late last week which otherwise confirms the first-billed star of
many a title between now and next year, action star Jackie Chan who himself is no stranger to voice-over artistry with such projects as cartoon series,
Jackie Chan Adventures, and Dreamworks’s
Kung Fu Panda trilogy. Chan will play Master Wu, while
Now You See Me 2 co-star Dave Franco will play Lloyd, followed by
Ant-Man and
War On Everyone star Michael Peña in the voice-over role of Kai,
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising co-star Abbi Jacobson as Nya,
Silicon Valley vets Kumail Nanjiani as Jay and Zach Woods as Zane, and
Saturday Night Live‘s own Fred Armisen as Cole.
SYNOPSIS:
Ninjago is the story of six young ninja tasked with defending their island home, called Ninjago. By night, they’re gifted warriors, using their skills and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters. By day, they’re ordinary teens struggling against their greatest enemy: high school.
