“Sometimes not even heroes can save themselves…”
Such is the tagline for Netflix‘s third and final outing for Marvel’s Jessica Jones, which Netflix is teasing once more with a brand new behind-the-scene featurette with actress Krysten Ritter tackling directing duties this final season.
Effectively season three also marks the last hoorah for all things Marvel on the streaming service following the cancellations of all of the other five shows in the past year, namely Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher.
Marvel’s Jessica Jones had a lukewarm take off in 2015 with Ritter in the title role, playing a binge-drinking ex-superhero-cum-private investigator afflicted by tragedy and an a villainous ex-lover whose machinations would render her with severe psychological trauma for years. The show continued with high drama and action in 2018 with Jones bitterly reuniting with her mother amid fracturing her friendships with neighbor and former assistant, Malcolm (Eka Darville), and mysteriously superstrong Trish (Rachael Taylor).
When Jessica crosses paths with a highly intelligent psychopath, she and Trish must repair their fractured relationship and team up to take him down. But a devastating loss reveals their conflicting ideas of heroism and sets them on a collision course that will forever change them both.
Joining Ritter, Taylor and Darville are a mix of recurring and new additions that include Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix Trilogy), Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), Jeremy Bobb (Russian Doll), Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), Tiffany Mack (Hap and Leonard), Jessica Frances Dukes (The Good Wife), Aneesh Sheth (New Amsterdam) and Rebecca DeMornay (The Hand that Rocks the Cradle).
The award-winning series will bow with 13 episodes on Netflix on June 14, and is executive produced by showrunner Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter) and Marvel’s Head of TV, Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage) who also serves as Marvel’s Head of Television.
