Nilalang and Maria helmer Pedring Lopez will direct a feature-length revival Filipino comic book property, Joaquin Bordado. The film will be the first in a slate of multi-IP titles now added to the wheelhouse for Viva Films for which Lopez now coins as the #CaparasUniverse – a nod to comic book creator/author Carlos J. Caparas.

The serial comic book franchise took off in the 1970s and onward, telling of a covert assassin-turned-ex-con whose new lease on life finds him imbued with powers through a transfer of mystical tattoos. Armed with newly-amped fighting prowess, he sets out on a quest for vengeance against his former boss.

A live-action feature firstly took off in 1988 prior to a successful GMA Network series run in 2008 starring Robin Padilla. Lopez, who had been in development with the project for close to a year until this week, took to social media to give thanks per the blessing he received from creator/author Carlos J. Caparas, who named now comes coined with the hashtag, #Caparasuniverse:

Production is slated to commence sometime this summer or Fall following Lopez’s Spring shoot with action thriller, Escape, from Blue Fox. I’m also told a sequel to his 2019 hit thriller, Maria, is on indefinite hold due to scheduling issues with the cast.

The ‘Caparas Universe’ is just the latest addition to the multitude of superhero titles now stirring the local market and gaining attention overseas, including the latest production launch for Jane De Leon’s starring role in ABS-CBN Star Cinema’s Darna, and Viva Films’ inaugural ‘Engkantos’ entry, Pedro Penduko.
