Deadline reports that director Chad Stahelski‘s John Wick 2 has officially added new actors to the roster.
Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter isn’t due for another year and change, but you can now add actress Ruby Rose to the list of titles in your wishlist with her attachment to the forthcoming Keanu Reeves sequel, along with Burnt co-star Riccardo Scamarcio, and much faved character actor Peter Stormare. The three join newly added Common and returning cast members Ian McShane, Bridget Moynahan, Lance Reddick, Tom Sadowski and John Leguizamo with Reeves back on board following the blockbuster first installation in 2014.
Sadowski, formerly of The Newsroom, reprises the role of Jimmy, the officer who, in the first film, arrives shortly after the home invasion sequence that ultimately leaves a pile of bodies on Wick’s floor. Leguizamo returns to the supporting role of Aurelio, the chop shop owner who dared to slug the son of a Russian mob boss for quite a good reason, hence the rest of the first film. Helen, Moynahan‘s character in the first film was limited mostly to flashback sequences as per the narrative, so her return very much means something more pivotal than just coming and going. McShane‘s return as Winston next to that of Reddick also adds to the direction that will immerse audiences even further into Wick’s background with respect to the story’s infamous assassin hotel, The Continental.
Common‘s addition to the cast last month also gave mention to a female villain, which could go to Rose if Monday’s report from Deadline is any sign of this.
Filming resumes in New York City between now and the holidays when the production moves to Rome, Italy next year. Derek Kolstad wrote the script for the new film with Stahelski now directing and Thunder Road producing and John Wick co-helmer David Leitch executive producing.
