KUNG FURY 2: THE MOVIE Knuckles-Up For A July Production Start

Production on Kung Fury 2: The Movie will go forward on July 29 in Germany and Bulgaria according to The Hollywood Reporter. Creasun Media’s L.A.-based financing and production arm, Creasun Entertainment USA will provide major investment on the film in time for production four years after the explosively successful crowdfunded production of Swedish filmmaker David Sanberg’s superbly-received OTT half-hour fantasy short.

The project saw Sandberg in the role of a Los Angeles cop who, following the death of his partner at the hands of a ninja, became the titular kung fu longfist of the law after being hit by lighting and bitten by a cobra. The adventure continued with our hero accidentally landing in the Viking ages after trying to use Hackerman’s rad time-traveling machine to travel back to Nazi Germany and kill time-hopping murderer, Adolf Hitler, once and for all.

Sandberg’s Kung Fury garned upwards of 40 million views on YouTube since premiering on May 28, 2015, and managed to win enough hearts on the market scene in Berlin just last year to get the wheels turning for a feature film. That effort included casting which currently has Michael Fassbender (X-Men saga), Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator franchise), Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver) and David Hasselhoff (Knight Rider, Baywatch) set to star with Sandberg in the title role just as production was previously scheduled for last Fall. Sandberg penned the script with Tyler Burton Smith.

The feature is set in 1985, the best year ever. Miami is kept safe under the watchful eye of Kung Fury, the greatest damn cop of all time. His Thundercops are the ultimate police force assembled from across history to defeat the villainous Kung Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler. After the tragic death of one of their members causes the group to disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel through space and time to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy, and defeat evil once and for all.

Creasun, run by Minglu Ma and George Acogny, have a majority stake in the film and will serve as producers next to Ben Renzo, and Jill and Ryan Ahrens’ of Argent Pictures who will co-finance. Also producing are Sandberg and Pelle Strandberg of Laser Unicorns, KatzSmith’s David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith and Aaron Schmidt, Philip Westgren of B-Reel Films and Fassbender of DMC Film whose Conor McCaughan will co-produce. Drew Brees, Tony Parker, Derrick Brooks and Michael Finley will exec produce for Argent.

Creasun will provide VFX support with Oscar-winning British VFX giant Double Negative.

“Kung Fury 2 is the very exciting vision of David Sandberg, and it contains all the elements of a magical and fun ride for all ages,” said Acogny. “We are thrilled to be part of this great project and can’t wait to share it with the whole world, where it will no doubt create excitement across the globe!”

Endeavor Content is selling Kung Fury 2: The Movie internationally at the Cannes market and co-repping with CAA Media Finance for North American rights.
