Lionsgate Speculates On A Seven-Part POWER RANGER Film Franchise

Director Dean Israelite’s Power Rangers movie is well into its production with more its release next year. In the meantime, the studio’s CEO, Jon Feltheimer is reportedly already bolstering talk of a franchise that could extend to as many as seven feature films thereafter

via Variety:

“We are really really excited about the ‘Power Rangers’ movie,” Feltheimer said during a conference call Thursday with analysts. “We could see doing five or six or seven.”

There were only two films to hit the big screen back in 1995 and 1997 followed by direct-to-video releases of the show’s later iterations as the years progressed. More than two decades since then, the franchise is still a hit among fans and in combination with today’s YA film audience, it’s idealistic to think big at this point.

There’s also a time factor in just how the franchise would carry on; Universal’s Fast And Furious films are still an enduring feat to date, especially having done so well with its seventh installment from director James Wan last year. If Saban’s Power Rangers is to achieve this kind of success, then I’d say the pressure is definitely on, and of course, it will depend on how this one performs.

Starring are Dacre Montgomery in Red, RJ Cyler in Blue, Naomi Scott in Pink, Becky G in Yellow and Ludi Lin in Black with actress Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repuls for the film’s March 24, 2017 release.
