Live-Action SPLINTER CELL Moves Forward With A Producer On Board

With all the video game news and online chatter coming out of the happenings of today’s Ubisoft E3 Press Conference, it would make sense to share today’s latest headline regarding the Splinter Cell feature-length film. According to Deadline, Hollywood producer Basil Iwaynk is officially on board to produce the live action film with New Regency and Ubisoft Motion Pictures, the latter who is also currently pushing forward the live-action Assassin’s Creed movie with actor Michael Fassbender for a May 22, 2015 release.

Today’s news comes a little over six months after a press release was unveiled in December 2012 stating that actor Tom Hardy was tapped for the lead in the film, with a screenplay to be provided by writer Eric Warren Singer. Hardy is also attached to star in the upcoming Spy Hunter movie directed by Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer.
Splinter Cell is based on the highly claimed Ubisoft video game franchise created from a series of books began by military sci-fi author Tom Clancy about Sam Fisher, a highly-trained special ops soldier who works in a fictional black-ops sub-division called “Echelon”. The team is best known for its use of cutting edge weaponry and unique combat skills to take on terrorists and neutralize powerful enemies, in action-packed stories ripped from real-world headlines.
Hardy is also slated to take the reigns as the titular road warrior in George Miller’s upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road, which is well on its way to post production with a release expected in 2014. Iwaynk is best known for his credits on such blockbusters like the Jonathan Libesman-directed Wrath Of The Titans, the 2012 ensemble action sequel thriller, The Expendables 2, and the upcoming David Leitch and Chad Stahelski-directed action flick, John Wick.
In related news, Machinima reports Ubisoft’s next game, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, will arrive on August 20, 2013.
