Long Live The King In The First Official Trailer For GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS

Gareth Edwards’ 2014 re-installment of Toho’s iconic monster franchise, Godzilla, got the ball rolling for a new franchise that once teetered into potential King Kong territory; The addition of Kong: Skull Island certainly helps and so hopefully that day will still come as it’s a matter of time before we eventually find out.

In the meantime, the good folks at Legendary and Warner Bros. have instead resolved to follow-up with a sprawling new sequel to queue more monster movie fanfare next year with Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, and the premiere trailer this weekend during events at San Diego Comic-Con doles out plenty of beasts to whet the appetite.

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species – thought to be mere myths – rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

The studios put out a teaser the other day which largely disappeared from the internet save for those who grabbed it to have a chuckle at the crew in the background of one of the key shots. Yes, that was funny… but… yeah…. it’s world overrun with monsters here and clearly no one is laughing. Fun times!

Michael Dougherty directs for a cast that lists Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ken Watanabe, and Zhang Ziyi.
