Lots Of Wire-Fu In The New Trailer For KUNG FU FIGHTER

After making headlines in early 2012 with Nunchaku, 20-year Jeet Kune Do veteran and multi-faceted actor and director Tanxing Chen (a.k.a Dragon Chen) is returning to the screen for his latest acting and directing effort with co-helmer Kwang Che Ching titled Kung Fu Fighter. Yes, the name itself reads like it came off of another old kung fu DVD box, and I could not agree more that there is a serious pattern as of late with studios renaming movies down to a simple, generic, bare-bones title.

However, there is a premise here to suit the film’s name and purpose. And if anything, the accolades Kung Fu Fighter received during this year’s international summer film festival circuit at Action On Film in the states, as well as overseas at Cologne in Germany and Guangju in South Korea will hopefully garner your interest, and that of your fellow genre fan. Based on the trailer here though…well, I’ll leave that in your hands to think on. Rest assured, if there’s a good movie here, I look forward to seeing it.
Chen stars along with Liu Hailong, Wang Linna, Shi Lin, Lam Wai and Zhang Liqing. The film will unleash its kung fu fury unto the Mainland on November 15, 2013. You can also watch an earlier behind the scenes featurette of the movie at the very bottom.
SYNOPSIS (I couldn’t find a full English write-up, so I interpreted it from giff.org with some grammatical corrections):

After accidentally killing his competition during a kung fu movie audition, Cheng Lindong is sentenced to seven years in prison, upon which he is released back into the world and the arms of his faithful girlfriend, Ke Lin. In a desperate move for a new life, he changes his identity and finds a job as a sparring partner at a boxing gym subsidized by its wealthy benefactor, Huang Li, who also happens to own a film studio.

Eventually, Cheng’s hard work earns him Li’s gratitude and appreciation. But Cheng’s potential for greatness brings Li’s attention after he rescues Li’s daughter, earning him the admiration and celebrity status “Kung Fu Fighter” and ultimately, another chance at film stardom…a chance that could cost him his releationship, and more.
