I still crave the usual anime stretch, but 2019 has been more of a TV drama thing after Netflix’s Punisher and both seasons of Korean crime procedural, Bad Guys. As of late you’ll find me on the streamer catching up on all four seasons of hit supernatural fantasy crime drama, Lucifer, based on a DC character no less and starring Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Leslie-Ann Brandt, D.B. Woodside and Kevin Alejandro.
A fifth season was just greenlit according to TVLine‘s Matt Webb Mitovich who provides the following statements from showrunner:
“We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for resurrecting our show last season, and now letting us finish the story of Lucifer on our terms,” reads a statement from co-showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich. “Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!”
“The fan support is super-important, and in particular [the first] month is going to be crucial towards whether or not we get a Season 5, because they [at Netflix] are paying attention. So far, the fan support has been amazing — everything you could ask for.”
“I mean, holy crap. It’s just been great,” added Modrovich. “I don’t know if I could ever handle it when bad reviews came or something, because I feel so spoiled and grateful right now.”
The show premiered on Fox in 2016 and got cancelled on the network after three seasons before Netflix acquired the show and gave it another go for a fourth season.
I haven’t tuned in much to commercial television for a long while which is why I only cover a few shows. I grew fascinated with Lucifer when I learned that Film Combat Syndicate favorite, Vlad Rimburg took on the show behind the scenes as fight coordinator for the two latest seasons and seeing as I was in the mood for some more television, I figured “why not”?
To date, I’ve managed to binge all of the first season in the past week and imaginably, I’m pulled in. Episodes nine and ten had some great zingers as well, and the ongoing mystery of Ellis’ portrayal of God’s forsaken son whose identity is merely interpreted by his human counterparts as his persona, is some of the most fascinating and fun TV I’ve watched.
Obviously I’m gonna keep watching as I’ve managed to start season two as of today. I’m real glad this is happening.
