Max Vs. Kruger: A New Featurette + New Clips For #ELYSIUM

IGN has a new TV spot Elysium that features actor Matt Damon in the role of Max, who is in the fight of his life and that of millions left on Earth. The clip above shows more grit and high octane action that also reveals the squads of armed killer robots, led by actor Sharlto Copley as the bio-suited cyber-enhanced mercenary, Kruger.

The new television spot comes just a week away from the film’s theatrical release on August 9, 2013 from Sony TriStar, and is ready to blow your mind to smithereens courtesy of writer, co-producer and director Neill Blomkamp, in his second turn at the helm with Copley since the 2009 science-fiction apartheid fantasy thriller, District 9. And not for nothing either for Blomkamp, a Johannesburg native, who admires that his films are viewed with larger depth and meaning, as opposed to the ire he shares for the film’s recently-generated dialogue regarding the said political context carried in its narrative, centered on a distant future divided between the haves and the have-nots on a galactic scale. “If there isn’t a deep core reason for a film existing, what is the point?” he tells L.A. Times Hero Complex columnist Rebecca Keegan. “For me to be known as a filmmaker that makes films that have a point, I’m stoked. But to be pigeonholed into political films, I would put a gun in my mouth if that’s how my career ended up.”

Elysium also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, Wagner Moura and William Fichtner.

SYNOPSIS:

In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined planet. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the crime and poverty that is now rampant throughout the land. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.
