[UPDATED] Meet David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD In A New Cast Photo!

UPDATE: Other photos are coming in. Stay tuned!

It’s no secret that Warner Bros. has a tall task on its hands of formulating a proper cinematic universe that can either best or equally compete with what’s been happening over at Marvel and Walt Disney Co. for some years now. Of course, much of that primarily had to deal with the effort of presenting Wonder Woman to the big screen for the first time as the studio ended up switching directors; for me, it took them long enough, but there’s reason enough to be optimistic, and our own Khalil Barnett presented his intricate case on the matter in this regard.

Alas, it’s a task they’re taking on and the production of David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad is no exception to the rule, what with fanfare building amid early criticisms of how actor Jared Leto is set to depict the villianous Joker. Yes, it’s controversial even in its celebratory state in wake of the 75 year anniversary of the longstanding success of the Batman comic book franchise, but at least now we get a glimpse of what we’ll expect with a new cast photo courtesy of Ayer himself via Twitter – no Leto though, as I guess that despite all previous set photo leaks of the actor, Ayer is doing his thing. We’ll see how this all plays out by August 5, 2016 when it releases, but the picture is definitely loaded with tons of anti-heroic badass. Take a look!

Word has it that Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice star Ben Affleck was spotted on the set of suicide squad sometime last month. As for whatever that means, perhaps this will help establish Leto as Affleck’s franchise opposite for Warner Bros. It’s poised to happen as a new Batman reboot was once mentioned last year for sometime in 2019 or 2020.

Anyway, Suicide Squad is coming, and this our cast in costume. Ayer is writing the script based on the work of writer/artist duo Robert Kanigher and artist Ross Andru in 1959, which centers on a story of supervillains given a second chance to remake themselves as heroes in service of the government, lest they get themselves killed on a mission so dangerous it’s considered suicidal. Hence the title.

Leto’s Joker headlines the cast with stars Will Smith as Floyd Lawton/Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as George “Digger” Harkness/Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as June Moone/Enchantress, Ike Barinholtz as Dr. Hugo Strange, Jim Parrack as Jonny Frost/Pseudo Joker Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Waylon Jones/Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Adam Beach as Christopher Weiss/Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Bette Sans Souci/Plastique and Raymond Olubowale as Nanaue/King Shark. Run All Night co-star, actor Common was announced fo undisclosed role.

Stay tuned for more info.
