MY HERO ACADEMIA: WORLD HEROES’ MISSION Gets October Release In The West

The popular anime adaption of Kohei Horikoshi’s shonen manga My Hero Academia has broken records with it’s films in the past. The third film installment in the series is likely set to gain even more accolades when Funimation brings the film to U.S. theatres in October following its Japan release earlier this month.

My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission follows protagonist Izuku “Deku” Midoriya, and two of his superhero classmates, Katsuki Bakugou and Shoto Todoroki, as they try to take down a villainous organization and clear Deku of false accusations. Featuring several brand new characters created by Horikoshi, the film after its second weekend in theaters earned a total of 2.06 billion yen (U.S. $18.7 million) with 1.58 million admissions. This surpassed the previous two films’ lifetime gross, where Two Heroes earned 1.72 billion yen (U.S. $15.6 million), and Heroes Rising earned a total of 1.79 billion yen (U.S. $16.2 million) at the Japanese box office. In the United States, Two Heroes earned U.S. $5.7 million (earning it entry to the top 10 highest-grossing anime films domestically at the time), and Heroes Rising, which opened at #1 at the U.S. box office and went on to earn a total of U.S. $10 million.

Tickets go on sale October 1st for all current dates. The United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Ireland will have the film release on the 29th. Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa will start on the 28th. Later releases are planned for Scandinavia, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru. Both English Subtitled and English Dubbed versions will be available for theatre goers.

This news comes shortly after the live-action adaption of the show by Legendary found it’s director.
