NEED FOR SPEED Sequel In Talks For Co-Production Status With China Companies

It was no Fast And Furious run at the box office for director Scott Waugh’s 2014 live-action take on the Electronic Arts game franchise, Need For Speed, ultimatly falling short of its budget. However, the film did up to $200 million globally, which seems to be enough to get talks going for a sequel overseas according to Deadline.

Three companies, China-based film production and distribution company, Jiaflix, is currently in early talks with China Movie Channel and 1905 Pictures, along with EA and Dreamworks Pictures in an effort to move forward with a deal. Last year’s thriller, scripted by George Gatins, starred former Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul and Agent Carter co-stat Dominic Cooper in the story of a two lifelong rivals, one framed for murder and sent behind bars for two years before re-emerging to get even in this explosive, high-speed tale of vengeance and fast cars.

There’s no cast, crew or story yet, although considering the current success of Universal Pictures’s seventh Fast And Furious film with an eighth currently in development and a release date expected soon, the momentum may still be there for a potential Need For Speed franchise as it was earlier intended. At any rate, fast car fandom continues, so let’s see how this engine runs. Stay tuned.
