New Line's ASTRO BOY Nabs 'San Andreas' Writers

A little over a year ago today, it was made official that Osamu Tezuka’s manga and anime classic, Astro Boy, would finally be on deck for a live-action feature of its own. Now the project is in full speed at New Line Cinema according to a new report from THR with word that San Andreas scribes Andrea Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore will pen the script.

Based on the classic story made popular in the 1950’s and 1970’s, the new film franchise will center on a robotic boy, built in the image of his creator’s deceased son, who is abandoned and taken under by a new scientist who enhances him with special abilities to use to fight the forces of evil. Australian production house, Animal Logic, known largey for its VFX work on projects like X-Men: Days Of Future Past, 300The MatrixThe LEGO Moive and the upcoming Avengers: Age Of Ultron, is teaming up with Tezuka Productions and Ranger 7 Films to create a four-film franchise based on Tezuka’s work.
A cast remains pending for who will play the lead along with who will direct. Watch this space.
