● kth hit the virtual EFM sales floor this week and landed multiple territories for action comedy, Mission: Possible. Kim Hyung-joo wrote and directed the pic which released in South Korea through Merry Christmas last month, starring Kim Young-kwang and Lee Sun-bin in the story of a private investigator and a secret agent who find themselves fugitives on the run in the wake of murders connected to a gun-smuggling case. 815 Pictures nabbed U.S. rights on the pic with CJ E&M for Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesoa, Klockworx for Japan, VS Cinema for Taiwan, and more. ● More than fifty years in, the posterity of Dynamite Entertainment comic property, Vampirella, now brings word of a new live-action feature project about the legendary Vampiri from the planet Drakulon who ventures out to save her people, whilst protecting mankind from the dark remnants of her own race. The deal between Dynamite Entertainment and Mike The Pike Productions’ Arowana Media Holdings caters to film rights, as well as TV rights to develop projects based on characters within the Vampirella universe. ● Psychothriller Silent John is in the works for a summer shoot with Aisha Tyler directing from a script by Emmett Hughes. Casting is underway for the film which hails from Hidden Empire Film Group, and centers on a couple whose Irish getaway turns into a living nightmare putting them in throes of the Catholic church and its historic abuses of unwed mothers. ● Action comedy All U Need Is Love is making the rounds with a first official trailer featuring headliners Jackie Chan and Louis Koo among the roster, billed as a benefit film for struggling entertainment industry workers. Vincent Kok directs here, chronicles the wacky escapades of hotel residents ordered into a 14-day quarantine. The film is tacked to an April release, locally.
● Filming starts in just a few weeks for Netflix action thriller, The Gray Man, and the Russo Brothers movie is now casting up, adding Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard and Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page. They join Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura, Dhanush and Julia Butters for the film adaptation of Mark Greaney’s eponymous book series here, which centers on freelance assassin and former CIA operative Court Gentry, as he’s hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen, a former cohort of Gentry’s at the CIA. ● Remember Red Stone? Welp, the hitman crime thriller is getting a spiritual sequel from it with the same director, Derek Presley, back at the helm, and with it, Boon, featuring Neal McDonough returning to star in titular form. The film has since added Christiane Seidel, Christina Ochoa, and Demetrius Grosse to the cast with McDonough co-writing the pic with Presley, and serving as producer next to returning producer Jason Starne. ● Hitting select theaters and VOD is Firestorm helmer Alan Yuen’s long-awaited spy romp, The Rookies. Shout! Studios is releasing the film on April 16, headlining Milla Jovovich in the role of mysterious special agent who corrals a ragtag team to battle global evil forces.
● WarnerMedia released its official poster for Zack Snyder’s Justice League earlier this week. Streaming on HBO Max from March 18, the four-hour feature is a complete retcon of the 2017 incarnation currently the subject of some of the most intense articles you’ll read of late about the controversial production and the ensuing fallout with those involved on the project. The fans fought hard for this one for four years straight, much to the favor of the inaugural honoree of the Hollywood Critics Association’s Valiant Award in lieu of the one-two punch forthcoming between now and his May release, Army Of The Dead, via Netflix.
