First from Asbury Park Pictures is the February production start at the Gold Coast set for action thriller Black Site. Starring Michelle Monaghan, Jason Clarke and Jai Courtney, Sophia Banks will direct from a script by Jinder Ho which centers on a group of officers based in a labyrinthine top-secret CIA black site who must fight for their lives in a cat-and-mouse game against Hatchet, a brilliant and infamous high-value detainee-turned-escapee whose mysterious and deadly agenda has far-reaching and dire consequences. Gerard McMurray (Burning Sands, The First Purge) will write and direct John Boyega and Robert DeNiro in The Formula for Netflix. The film follows “a Formula One racing prodigy is forced to become a getaway driver to save the only family he has left.” McMurray is also producing via his company, Buppie Productions. Lovecraft Country showrunner Misha Green is replacing Ben Wheatley to direct the forthcoming Tomb Raider sequel, returning actress Alicia Vikander to the title role based on the hit game franchise. Wheatley was attached in September 2019 along with a March 2021 premiere date at the time. The date was rescinded last October. At the end of the day it’ll be Eli Roth who will direct Borderland for Lionsgate, and as such, will now being Kevin Hart along with Cate Blanchett for the adventure. The film is based on the hit 2K game franchise about a quartet of ‘Vault Hunters’ who travel to the distant planet Pandora to hunt down an alien vault rumored to contain advanced alien technology.
