Subscribers to all things Art School Dropouts via Discord have already seen the extent of their most recent in-house work with the animated feature, Player Agency. Directed by Joey Min with a cast led by Kage Yami and voice performances by Yami along with Min, Angela Jordan, Stephanie Pham and Shawn Williams, the project was completed with help via the group’s Rec Room and Discord communities, and with a feature film edit in toe, Min and his team have since begun rolling it out in webseries format.
Player Agency follows the story of Ken, a 30 year old something, who’s going through a midlife crisis. To cheer him up, his friend creates an adventure for him in virtual reality. Ken then spirals into a series of events that will forever change his outlook on himself and his life goals.
Min’s work here is a far cry from the usual live-action bits he’s done, in addition to getting to collaborate with Michael Jai White in recent memory. This will be an acquired taste for some folks, but most likely an acceptable experiment for fans who’ve followed Min for the last ten years since the launch of the ASDO label.
Word on a release of the film in whole remains TBA while I imagine the webisodes will be distributed weekly on the channel.
