POKÉMON DETECTIVE PIKACHU: Only Justice Smith Can Understand Ryan Reynolds In The First Official Trailer

Pokémon Go may not be the popular mobile time waster that it was a few years ago, but the property itself is still the very best among its fans, and a live-action film for the IP itself was simply a matter of time. Fast forward to Monday’s first official trailer launch for POKÉMON Detective Pikachu from director Rob Letterman (Goosebumps, Monsters vs. Aliens) in his own in-roads attempt to a narrative feature that probably won’t host everyone’s favorite theme song from the Americanized anime series.

Deadpool franchise star Ryan Reynolds headlinea as voice of our popular title protagonist, joining actor Justice Smith who, to me, stars in one of the best television dramas most ever haphazardly treated by a giant streaming company, and you can check out what remains of it by clicking here. As for the film, Smith will star in the role Tim Goodman who, upon learning of his father’s disappearance, sets off on a whirlwind mystery adventure in the neon-lit metropolis of Ryme City to investigate the whereabouts of his missing father whose former detective partner – a Pokémon only he can seemingly understand, joins in to help.

Actress Kathryn Newton joins the lot as Lucy, a reporter on her first big story, and Watanabe Ken as Lt. Yoshida, as well as a wide array of Pokémon fan favorites – including shenanigans from Mr. Mime to boot.

May 10 is the date for next year’s release, with dibs on Japan screens for Toho, and that of China for Legendary East.
