Far right violence couldn’t be a more timely topic in 2026 with the relevance of bad actors working in film today and finding an audience. That specifically goes to the rise of hate and antisemitism in Germany where German-Iranian director Faraz Shariat provides an amiable counterbalance with Prosecution, based on a true story and starring Chen Emilie Yan in her feature acting debut.
After surviving a racist attack, state prosecutor Seyo Kim takes her own case to court – confronting both the perpetrators and the justice system that turns a blind eye to right-wing extremism.
Shariat directs from a script by Claudia Schaefer for Prosecution which debuted earlier this year in Berlin. Yan is joined by Julia Jentsch, Alev Irmak, Arnd Klawitter, and Sebastian Urzendowsky on screen with production hailing from Jünglinge Film GmbH, and support from Film-und Medienstiftung NRW, Der Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (BKM), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, HessenFilm und Medien, Nordmedia, DFFF, ZDF, and ARTE.
Prosecution is world-repped by New Europe Film Sales for international sales, and will release in Germany on August 27.
Watch the official trailer as presented exclusively by Screen‘s Ben Dalton on Thursday.
